BMP Europe Limited is a privately owned industrial manufacturing group. Their head office is in Accrington, Lancashire and they have manufacturing facilities across Europe, North America, Mexico, China and Malaysia. The business began in Bury in 1894 selling woven textiles to laundries. Today the company manufacture highly engineered materials for the global filtration and printing markets.
BWD were invited to provide a full turnkey solution for the refreshment of their Accrington headquarters. Three key areas were identified, namely: the reception area, the upper reception area (mezzanine), and a customer-facing boardroom. BMP were looking for a design scheme that would recognise their rich manufacturing heritage whilst creating spaces conducive to an expanding global engineering organisation.
BWD have removed the existing dated reception counter and replaced it with a new customer-facing one. The old, tiled flooring has been replaced with a continuous parquet-style vinyl plank. Making the floor one finish makes it easier to clean and the choice of colour helps to add warmth the large reception space. The mezzanine floor which was a forgotten customers seating area now tells the story of BMP in bespoke designed wall panels. The old sofas have been replaced with modern seating and there is a modern self-serve coffee station. The boardroom showcases BMP’s achievements in a dedicated feature wall and the once poorly displayed Queens Award certificates and trophies are now showcased in a fitting manner. The existing boardroom has been retained and refurbished and the whole room has been upgraded with new wall, floor, and graphic features.
“The combination of branding and interior design has transformed the look and the feel of the building into a first-rate contemporary space and one that I can’t wait to showcase to local businesses and co-workers. The combination of the Art Deco heritage exterior and modern, superbly designed space is a compelling offer.
Bev and Martin excelled in translating outline designs into compelling visuals with meticulous attention to detail, from bespoke furniture to influencing the floor coverings, blinds, wall colours… the list is endless. I can’t thank them enough for what has been an intensive period of detailed and inspiring work with a real focus on quality and practicality of end-use."
Peter Legg, Head of Economic & Cultural Services at Blackpool Council and lead on The Robinson project.
