We love getting involved with our local community and were really flattered to be asked by Jim Leak, Chairman of Lytham In Bloom Trust to help them with two projects they were putting together.

Lytham in Bloom Trust was formed in 1998 by a small group of interested local residents. Over the years it has become a respected advocate for the town of Lytham working alongside Fylde Borough Council, generating revenue through local fundraising, sponsorship, donations and grants. These funds are used to undertake projects, purchase plants, trees, benches and support other local initiatives.

Lytham in Bloom’s main objectives are:

• To help promote Lytham as a lovely place in which to live or to visit
• To work with other charitable trusts and the local authority to beautify and improve Lytham
• To work together with local businesses, schools, charities and private individuals to develop mutually beneficial projects
• To participate in regional and national competitions”

 

The first was for their application for the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park which finished on Sunday 27^th July and saw Jim and his colleague David come away with a Silver Guilt Medal for their display at this year’s show. We helped Jim and David take their sketch ideas into a scaled visual representation of their proposed RHS display. The visual and how the display looked after the installation at Tatton are shown in the gallery of pictures below. We think the end result was pretty close to the visual. Bev our Creative Director visited the show on the last day and managed to meet up with Jim and David for a glass of Pimms in the Champagne tent to toast the win.

Following the visualisation work we did for the RHS Flower Show, Jim and David approached us again to help them with a more local scheme. They wanted to create a poignant floral piece in the Memorial Gardens of Lytham to mark the anniversary of World War 1. Jim Leak said:

We really wanted to do our bit for the 1st World War Anniversary and have been praised in the past for involving others in the community. So we had a meeting and Bev and her team helped us get it all drawn up, as well as suggesting that we speak to John Ditchfield, the International Award Winning Glass artist, to create a glass poppy as the centre piece. Forge @ Lytham did the metalwork stem for the poppy and devised a way of getting it all in place and Conlon Construction and Danbro helped to made it all happen’

The Centenary piece is now installed for all to see in the Lytham Memorial Gardens, just opposite Zest. The timber pot frame was designed by bwd’s team who created a visual of what the finished result would look like. This is a living tribute to the fallen and is testament to the community projects that Lytham In Bloom Trust support. We are very proud to have played a small part in putting the Centenary piece together and are looking forward to supporting this local organisation in future projects.
