Blackpool Tourist Information Centre

Client

Blackpool attracts 15 million visitors a year to the resort and many visit Festival House Tourist Information Centre. Visit Blackpool deliver tourist information and tourist-led services. Festival House is a purpose-built facility housing the Tourist Information Centre, a wedding venue, and a café operation.

Project

All of our projects focus on the user. In the case of the Tourist Information Centre, this project had to satisfy multiple users with complex user requirements. The Centre’s original plan layout did not take into consideration the operational aspects of the space nor provided the flexibility needed to make space work for staff and visitors.

Outcomes

BWD have delivered a layout which places the main information service counter in the customer sight line; previously it was out of sight. It now offers a dedicated ticket collection counter which alleviates congestion at the main counter. The wall spaces have been optimised for the display of information services and products. Ideally, a dedicated wedding entrance would be provided however limitation of the building could not accommodate this. bwd have therefore created mobile floor fixtures which can be moved to enable wedding parties to walk through the centre, on the way to the Chapel services on the upper floors.
