Burnley Crematorium

Burnley Council’s Green Space and Amenities team commissioned BWD Limited to undertake the refurbishment of Burnley Crematorium, a much-valued civic facility serving the local community. The Council aimed to improve both the functionality and the overall visitor experience, while preserving the dignity and atmosphere of the building. As a place where families gather to reflect and remember, the Crematorium required sensitive design interventions that respected its purpose and setting. The project provided an opportunity to enhance interiors and circulation, ensuring the building remains welcoming, accessible, and appropriate for all who use it.

The Project

BWD worked closely with Burnley Council to plan and deliver a series of interior refurbishments that would bring the Crematorium up to modern standards. Our design considered circulation, lighting, seating, and finishes to create a cohesive scheme that balances practical improvements with a calm and reverent environment. Careful attention was given to materials, colour palettes, and detailing to ensure the new interventions complemented the existing architecture. From concept design through to installation, BWD provided creative direction, technical drawings, and full coordination of contractors and suppliers undertaking the refurbishment.
