Serviced Offices Reimagined: BWD’s Transformation of The Robinson

At BWD, we know that the best spaces begin with people and end with thoughtful design. That belief guided our work on the recent £8.2 million restoration of Blackpool’s 1930s Art Deco Stanley Buildings, renamed as The Robinson in honour of the original architect.  This project showcases our passion for commercial interior design, design‑led office interiors, and serviced offices.

Founder: Bev Wood said,

“We design spaces that work operationally and look fantastic too”

We won the project after a competitive tender process and are working in collaboration with Brand experts Happy Creative, another local creative agency.  The Council envisioned a modern workspace that would pay homage to the Stanley Buildings’ iconic Art Deco character and would attract local start-up’s as well as seasoned companies to take up residence.

Our first step was to immerse ourselves in the building’s history: the ornate cornices, geometric details and jewelled colours that defined the 1930s. From there, we balanced respect for the original architecture with the demands of twenty‑first century work life.

Bringing Heritage Forward

Walking through the restored building, you will feel mood of its historic past but with modern architectural and interior details. Period‑style lighting and new jewelled colours are used throughout the building.  The furniture and fittings evoke the colour palette of the 1930’s and we have upcycled wooded panelling, rescued from the demolished law courts to create feature walls in the offices space and co-workspace.  Not only does the timber have excellent acoustic properties, but we have saved over 100 square metres going to landfill.

A Design‑Led Approach

Instead of simply filling floors with desks, we imagined how people would move, meet, and collaborate. Corridors allow teams to flow between zones. Nooks and lounges offer moments of quiet focus or casual conversation. Every material choice—from oak-effect vinyl floors to the plush upholstery has been designed to delight the eye as well as standing up to the rigours of daily use.

On the first floor, we have introduced a deep emerald green to the corridor walls which is  set against crisp white surrounds. Bold graphic motifs on the floor to ceiling glass office elevations echo features from the 1930s.

Serviced Offices & Flexible Workspaces

The Robinson will accommodates businesses of all sizes. Forty-four fully furnished, plug-and-play serviced offices range from single‑desk suites to larger team rooms. For those who prefer a shared setting.  There are flexible co-working memberships, available by the hour, casual breakout areas and six meeting rooms which are bathed in daylight and equipped with modern AV equipment for hosting meetings or workshops.

Modern Amenities for Everyday Ease

Blackpool Council have layered in practical features that support today’s mobile workforce. Ultra-fast broadband, secure bike storage, and showers to encourage green commuting. Kitchenettes on each floor and coffee stations in lounge areas foster informal interaction. Supported by The Blackpool Growth Business Academy, tenants will gain immediate access to workshops, mentoring sessions, and networking events.
