Lancashire based Interior designers bringing space to life

put a chalk in it!

A little trip down memory lane for many of us will take us back to school where we watched our teachers spend hours scrawling on chalkboards, but now they’ve started to sneak their way in to interior design in many different ways!

A trend that is suitable for domestic and commercial use, the idea of including chalkboards means any surface can look any way you want it to, for as long as you want it to, whether it is practical or just plain adorable!

At a wedding we recently attended, chalkboards were used all over the place in various shapes and sizes. One of our favourites was the heart shaped table name signs.

Another idea we came across was having chalkboards suspended inside fantastic colourful gilt frames. In this example, motivational quotes have been penned upon each one.

Even in our own Beverley Wood’s home, you’ll find slate hung on the wall of her kitchen as a brilliant way to keep her family organised!

For a quick DIY update, you can easily buy chalkboard paint to transform an interesting surface into an intriguing design piece, like a kitchen door or an old mirror.

There is so much potential for chalkboards and chalkboard paint to be used in a commercial space, whether it is in small or large doses.

In a children’s area of a museum or library, child-safe chalk can be used. In bars or cafes, local artists could be invited to make their mark on the walls each month. Current or upcoming trend ideas, or sale prices, could adorn the chalkboards in a retail space.

The DIY vintage vibe it radiates fits in perfectly with current trends, but the fact anything could be scribbled upon it means it is incredibly versatile for when trends move on. We hope we can incorporate it into a creative space soon!
