Sitting Comfortably?

Do your staff have good quality seating that supports their back?  Do you have adjustable desking?  If your answer is no, then it may be time to think about investing in your office furniture.

We spend almost half of our waking lives at work and a large percentage of the day sitting down.   Many studies have been conducted to find out if the way the office environment is planned and how it looks has a bearing on employee productivity. The findings are pretty conclusive. Comfortable and well-designed offices with ergonomically designed furniture can motivate employees, increases performance and can avoid absenteeism.  Why is it that businesses rarely re-plan their office environment or invest in new furniture?

We visit many client premises in the course of our project work.  Some of our clients place great importance on having offices which totally reflect their brand.  Others don’t appear to notice that their staff are sitting on dated furniture with no adjustability to suit their user needs.

What you sit on matters

Revolutionary improvements in office seating design have led to some very well-designed task chairs, providing the user with a much higher level of comfort, flexibility in movement and most importantly improved posture.

With a detailed sling back polished aluminium arm, the rolled and pleated upholstery is available in an array of fabrics. Also available in leather.

You can still pick up a task chair for under fifty quid, however if you want all of the ergonomic benefits you need to invest in a quality chair. Some have lumbar supports and breathable mesh seats. Some can be customised to suit your size with fully adjustable back rests and arm rests. There are chairs manufactured to reduce upper back, neck and shoulder tension too.

Almost 10 million Britons suffer pain almost daily resulting in days off work. We are not saying this is all down to the office chair, however, a poorly designed chair can’t be helping.

Sit? Stand?

Statistics show that we are too sedentary in our working behaviours and we all need to ‘move more’.  Did you know that there are many science-based reasons why we should all investing in a standing desk?  Some are obvious ones such as promoting better posture and blood flow.  Some people have sited that working standing up has improved their creativity and focus.

A standing desk is basically a desk that allows you to stand up comfortably while working.  Many versions are adjustable so that you can change the height of the desk and alternate between sitting and standing.  Early stages of research has shown that a standing desk can have impressive benefits for health and may increase productivity.  At the very least, using this type of desk provides the user with more movement and greater flexibility over how they want to work.

Our Lancashire-based manufacturer offers a wide range of workstation furniture from static desks to sit/stand versions. All in their Darwen showroom. They can even offer different coloured edging to your worktops, at no additional cost. This means you can coordinate your office furniture with your brand identity.

Investing in good quality furniture and workstations is a fantastic way to uplift the spirits of the staff and perhaps improve their health too.
