It IS Easy Being Green

We came across this article by Mary Griffin and we fell in love with the idea!

“In the heart of Coventry city centre tomato, herb and butternut squash plants are growing in public flower displays.
Councils across the country are testing the idea of growing fruit and veg along grass verges, in pavement planters and hanging baskets.
Food makes up 20 per cent of our carbon footprints, so to cut air miles and boost local food security is it time to start growing grub in public places?”

The article has introduced us to brilliant movement called Incredible Edible Todmorden. The movement say they simply “grow and campaign for local food” but they do much more than that!

“From our beginnings with herb gardens, we’ve taken to planting and growing veggies and trees round town we’ve planted several orchards and there are more to come, and we’re working with public bodies round town to use their land – like the fire station and the railway station – or to work with them on their own Incredible ideas”

Every school in their town is now involved and growing with Incredible Edible Todmorden, working together to promote food-based learning by growing their own herbs and vegetables. The movement is also in the middle of their own local history project!

Growing projects like these are a fantastic way to bring together a community, especially when schools can get involved to educate and inspire children.

We would love to design and create some spaces for local town and city centres so that all communities can get together and produce something together!
